Deep Root Fertilization and Inoculations

Wise Man Roots has a unique fertilization formula that is both gentle and organic, as well as a specially developed Compost Tea to maximize the nutrient availability in your soil to help your trees thrive.

Why is fertilization important to central Texas trees?

Many nutrients essential to your trees may be depleted or inaccessible to the roots due to the soil chemistry.

Central Texas soil tends to be shallow and alkaline (high pH.) The addition of macro nutrients, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as micro nutrients, are often advised.

Building nutrient density in the underground mycorrhizal networks increases the absorption efficiency of tree roots.

The roots of your trees are surrounded by soil, water, and air.  The ratios of these components can drastically affect the ability of the roots to absorb nutrients necessary for the tree’s survival. Central Texas soil often has these challenges, as well as other stressors.

Fertilize Twice a Year

Fertilization twice a year, in the spring and again in the fall, is optimal.  Tree roots that are able to maximize the nutrients and water they absorb help the tree thrive, and are in better condition to ward off disease, pest damage, and drought.

When is the best time to fertilize my trees?

Twice a year in the Spring and Fall!

Spring is an active phase in the life of a tree. If you fertilize during this season, you are allowing

nutrients and water to be absorbed and utilized to build tree vigor and better withstand the summer.

Fall is also a great time to fertilize and prepare for winter. A strong immune system protects against pests, disease, and soil conditions.

What are other stressors impacting the absorption of needed nutrients?

  • Soil compaction (from construction, lawn maintenance, or pedestrian traffic)

  • Soil Erosion

  • Space constraints: buildings, sidewalks, or driveways impeding the root system

  • Too much or too little water due to draught, grading issues, or soil depth

  • Insect infestation resulting in reduced foliage, girdling, and associated pathogens

  • Disease affecting the health and longevity of the tree.

Trees add beauty, anchor soil, create shade, and add value to your property.

For best results, trees should be fertilized at least 2X per year, in the spring and again in the fall, the two most active phases in Central Texas.

When should I fertilize my trees?

Fertilization is not just for distressed trees. For thriving trees, a proactive approach is optimal. The best defense against insects, disease, and drought is a healthy tree.

Fertilization and inoculation supplement soil nutrients and reinforce root and mycorrhizae symbiosis.

My trees look fine! Why do I need to fertilize them?

Mycorrhizae are naturally occurring fungal networks in the soil that have a beneficial symbiotic relationship with tree roots and other vascular plants.
